I’ve only been to the Lonely (Ash) Tree at Malham a couple of times. First time I managed to get a few photos but they weren’t too brilliant. Second time, it was in pure sunlight so I gave it a miss and drove past. I took a chance on my third and I managed to take some better photos. They are in my Gallery and are for sale.
There was some fantastic light showing in the valley below in Ribblesdale and I’d wish I had took my telephoto lens. All I had was a wide angle and ordinary zoom lens. The best I could manage is below, and this is cropped.
I will probably, most likely, go back in an early morning or evening one day.
Photos
Coloured tree - I wanted a composition where one of the gaps between the limestone, a leading line, that went towards the tree. I saw the moss and wanted to incorporate it into my foreground. I got near to is as I could and wish I got lower to the ground, only when I arrived home that I realised that I could have flattened the tripod legs out more and got nearer to the rocks. Nevertheless, I like this shot.
Black and white - nothing much to say really, I think I wanted another composition that had another leading line towards the tree.
Now for the photo that shows the light. This was originally a larger size photo, but I cropped it to show more of the light casting through the clouds in the valley below. A wonderful sight to see and I wish I had my telephoto lens with me. I knew I should have taken it with me.
